AMAR

François Amar, Professor of Chemistry and former Dean of the University of Maine Honors College, recently contributed the lead essay in the Journal of the National Collegiate Honors Council Forum on “Honors After Covid.” Titled “Honors in the Post-Pandemic World: Situation Perilous,” the essay examines the recent structural, demographic, and financial challenges faced by honors programs and colleges of higher education institutions in the United States and notes, “The new ‘normal’ post-COVID will challenge honors practitioners to address these inequities in a landscape of even greater competition for even scarcer resources. Doubling down on the core values of honors, such as diversity, community, student agency, and inclusive excellence, will help programs define and articulate their worth in this new environment.”
