Description of Publication:
There is a popular belief in western society that humans are not a part of nature. Rene Descartes’ Meditations produced the idea that the mind and body were essentially separate entities, and this idea transferred over time to cause a separation between humans and nature. This Thesis works with Rene Descartes along with Maurice Merleau-Ponty in order to see that there is no split between the mind and the body. With this established we then move on to see that an understanding of current day neuroscience and a basic understanding of cultural objects can prove that even the human mind is altered by the natural world.
