Honors-Student Initiated Commencement Featured in National News
On Friday, March 13, University of Maine students banded together to throw their own commencement, as they learned their commencement likely wouldn’t be possible due to the impact of COVID-19. They dubbed the event “Coronamencement” and it was covered in both the New York Times and the Bangor Daily News. The event was initiated by senior Honors student, Sophie Palangas. From a small Facebook event, it grew to an event that involved the UMaine community, even featuring Dean Robert Dana as a speaker at the event. While it may not have been the commencement that our students imagined, it was beautiful nonetheless.
