Feature Friday: Vanessa Bambe Cyuzuzo ’24

The Honors College’s Feature Friday series highlights an Honors student every Friday and shares a little bit about their experiences in Honors and at the University of Maine.

This week, our feature is on Vanessa Bambe Cyuzuzo. Vanessa is a first-year civil engineering major and international student from Nyanza, Rwanda.

Her favorite thing about Honors is its relatability. “As we learn about civilization, I get to see how through times humanity has had the same problems repeatedly. I get to see how people have grown and improved through different times,” said Vanessa.

Vanessa’s favorite Honors Civilizations text so far is American Indian Myths and Legends. She appreciates “how simple yet complex the tales of our existence are.”

She has grown to love UMaine and its people. “Even during the pandemic, everyone does their part to keep everyone else safe,” said Vanessa.

Apart from academics, Vanessa’s favorite pastimes are painting and drawing. She noted, “They allow me to appreciate nature.”
