Maine Day Meal Packout
The Maine Day Meal Packout (MDMP) engages hundreds of university and community volunteers to pack bulk ingredients into nutritionally-dense meal packets, which are then donated to food pantries around Maine. The initiative is led by the Honors College MDMP Leadership Team, which coordinates fundraising and distribution of the packets, as well as the event itself. The MDMP will mark our 800,000th meal packed in 2026!
The MDMP is made possible by students, Honors College staff, business and organizational sponsors, and many generous supporters.

The Maine Day Meal Packout: A Win-Win-Win
A win for students on the Honors College Maine Day Meal Packout Leadership Team who develop organizational and leadership skills in fundraising, grant writing, public speaking, communications, volunteer coordination, event management, and teamwork in planning and running the Maine Day Meal Packout.
A win for our campus and community, with hundreds volunteering on the Maine Day of Service to form the single largest service event on campus. UMaine is in the top ten of organizations (and one of only two universities) in New England for the most meals packed.
A win for our state, with tens of thousands of meals donated annually to food pantries feeding the 1 in 8 Mainers who are food-insecure, including 1 in 5 children. In 2026, the Maine Day Meal Packout initiative will have distributed 800,000+ meals over 8 years, targeting some of Maine’s most food-insecure communities.
